Harbour View Hotel
The Rocks, Sydney
Sunday, 19 August saw the re-opening of the heritage listed Harbour View Hotel at The Rocks after having been closed for 12 months for a complete renovation. Owners were overwhelmed with the phenomenal number of guests who responded to attend the sensational opening day. Some one thousand guests, including councillors from the City of Sydney, residents and business associates were in attendance to appraise the painstaking twelve month renovation which reflects in every respect the labours of love which are now testimony to a great place to meet, greet and eat. Managing Director, Brian Perry, said "Renovations took substantially longer than expected due to a number of obstacles: construction was terminated during the period of the Olympic Games, the requirement to comply with various heritage restrictions, and numerous other unforeseen circumstances." "I am extremely happy with the end result - the heritage authorities share my satisfaction that the building now stands proud in The Rocks" The property is the closest hotel to the Harbour Bridge, it has harbour views and is an integral part of the third largest tourist attention in Australia - The Rocks. "The Harbour View boasts two function rooms, a Cocktail bar and a restaurant overlooking Sydney Harbour together with a ground floor bar offering live entertainment on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. Included in this hotel is an entertainment area including a pool room which is expected to attract both local and overseas tourists who are looking for a different experience and an era reminiscent of the 30's as opposed to the local hotels whose main claim to fame is of a previous century" The original Harbour View was demolished to make way for the Harbour Bridge - the current pylon of the Bridge now stands where the Harbour View Hotel previously stood. Its style is more art deco than historic. When asked whether he would take on another listed hotel renovation, Brian replied, 'Certainly - the key is to involve the local residents. This should be done right from the beginning. It is essential to employ an experienced heritage architect, be patient and understand, understand what is required in terms of heritage restrictions - Supreme confidence in the end result is paramount' True to his word, Brian Perry has since bought the epic Kings Cross Hotel which is currently undergoing renovations. Due to re-open early 2007, The Kings Cross Hotel will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting, modern and innovative hotels in Sydney complete with six floors of fine dining eating, dance clubs, bars, function rooms and top class live entertainment.
